Kelby Photowalk 2013
J.C. Raulston Arboretum
Jo Ann and I participated in the 2013 edition of the Kelby Photowalk. This was our first Kelby Photowalk experience and, I have to say, it was fun. In fact, we were both surprised by the fun we had, especially since we were touring a venue that had eluded us for years. That was followed up by a dinner at a local restaurant, where we were able to meet several other photographers. It was a really good experience.
The J.C. Raulston Arboretum is part of the Department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University and is located near the NCSU campus in Raleigh, NC. It is a hidden gem that is easily accessible, if you are willing to follow your GPS. Otherwise, finding it can be a challenge. There is a small parking lot at the entry and no fees are charged, which is appreciated.
The Arboretum grounds cover about 10 acres, which are rich with many varieties of plants, both large and small. Color is apparent year-round and the plantings are generally located in themes. Also included are some special gardens which serve as experimental plots for the development of new annual cultivars. This is truly a gem in the capitol city of Raleigh, NC.
